Almost Home

Can’t believe that the adventure is almost over.  Tori and I have been in Bangkok since yesterday.  We did the whole Khao San Road thing as we stayed very near it.  Khao San is actually several roads of street vendors, restaurants, cart/street food, etc that sells everything you did and didn’t want during your stay in Bangkok.  Lots of backpackers and other travelers packing the streets, sometimes a very carnival kind of atmosphere.
Today, was a bit drizzly but that is certainly not a problem for 2 Pacific Northwest women. We toured several Temples and the Grand Palace which is actually a pretty big complex.  The temples are much more decorated than in Vietnam and provide many photo ops.  I think Tori has developed a real eye for photography and I will rely on some of her pics when I can get them posted.  We also experienced Bangkok’s water taxis which seem very efficient.
Have enjoyed several meals of pad thai and red and green curry dishes as well as multiple fruit shakes and the most delicious dessert.  The dessert is prepared on a street vendor cart.  First they take a dough ball and expertly shaped it into what resembles a small pizza.  It then hits the hot griddle with lots of coconut oil and is almost deep fried while a whole banana is sliced onto it.  The dough is then folded over the banana to make a little packet (a delicious little packet) and both sides are lightly browned while the banana heats up.  It is removed from the heat, and chocolate is drizzled on top and then the packet is cut into bite sized pieces and served up on a paper plate with a large toothpick for quick consumption – oh so good!  My I took all that time to describe it.  Better go have another before we have to leave for the airport.
“Home” to Shenzhen for a day (supposed to get some hot pot there and I hope some street bing – flat bread fried on a street cart and seasoned with the most delightful spicy hot flavorings – T has a really good guy who makes it perfectly).  Oh man, back on food again.
May try to do one more post reflecting on my travels.  Looking forward to seeing you all!
