So for those who have not heard for whatever reason, I am embarking on a year-long journey to China for the official purpose of teaching English in the public school system. This of course means several things, including that I will technically be employed by Red China for what amounts to a handsome amount over there but would cover next to none of my expenses back at home. Otherwise I’m looking at this as a chance to go out and see a new place, new culture, learn a new language (hopefully anyway) and, of course, use location as a springboard for travel opportunities.
As for writing and ideally maintaining this blog, it was a decision I came to with some hesitiation, particularly due to my personal distaste for the word ‘blog’, but it also seemed to be the most effective way of staying in touch with people and allowing any interested parties in keeping abreast of my activities. People are welcome and encouraged to post any comments for general consumption here and my email is also available. For the time being the blog is mostly in setup and prep mode for me, but the idea is that once I hit the road on June 27th, entries will become more plentiful and interesting. Will try to post pictures too for those among us who don’t have time for words.
And before I forget to do so, I wanted to thank my uncle Bruce W for hosting this page on his site. The ‘flexible’ nature of Internet access in China had me worried about keeping lines of communication open, so this will offer a way to circumvent any censor whims one way or another.
